The History of the European Union (EU)
After the two world wars , and the countries of antagonism and mutual distrust between the European power. There was desire to create a peaceful and prosperous Europe rather than the destruction behind every war.
Therefore , in 1957 the foundation of integrated Europe were established by six countries which are West Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Italy.
Hence, they signed the treaty of Rome and formed the European Economic Community (EEC). however, British did not join the treaty, But it distanced itself as commercial power, and did not wish to be restricted by European relationships. An old suspicion of Europe also caused many British people to shrink from membership of European organization , which they thought might result in the loss of their identity and independence. Now there are now 27 members countries.

The European Currency: The treaty has provided for introduction of common European Currency which is (The Euro).
Nonetheless The United Kingdom still keep their own currency which is (Pound).
